SUUM is a webcomic drawn in the art style of banal naivism. It is drawn by a human, because no computer software currently seems to be able to emulate banal naivism.

Reasons

It was not obvious that SUUM was needed. With the help of a human host, through which the banal naivistic drawings are drawn, it suddenly appeared. Reasons? No one knows.

SUUM is written and drawn by Niels G. W. Serup. He is also the person behind metanohi.name in general.

It is ok to hotlink to images on this site. It is not ok to spell SUUM as anything other than "SUUM". The scripts used to generate the HTML pages of SUUM can be downloaded from here. Note that no revision control system is used.

Human errors

It appears I have made a few errors. They are listed here:

1. I wrote "succed" instead of "succeed" in comic 9. It is not my intention with this comic to create a new version of the English language, so this is a serious error.
2. I wrote "succesful" in comic 12. A letter is missing, (and it's not at the end).
3. I forget the "m" in "number" in comic 15. I don't know what a "nuber" is.
4. I wrote "forget" instead of "forgot" in the above correction. Perhaps I was asleep while I was typing; since "e" and "o" are directly next to each other on my Dvorak layout keyboard, I might have hit the wrong button. Or maybe I just wasn't sure which tense I wanted to write in. In any case, this is clearly no trifle.

Fails

This category is different from the "Human errors" category.

1. The embedded image in comic 34 is called "34_advertisement.png". Some versions of Adblock Plus block this file, because it sounds like an advertisement. To tell Adblock Plus to ignore it, add this filter to Adblock Plus: @@||suum.metanohi.name^$document. There will never be actual advertisements on SUUM.

Algorithm

The human who draws SUUM uses a greedy algorithm to draw SUUM. It rarely yields an optimal solution, though it often ends up with a pretty good approximation of one.

The author does not know how to prove whether the greedy approach always gives a good approximation of an optimal solution.
